Worship Services:
Divine Worship with Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday morning at 10:00 am. Worship at Grace is truly DIVINE because in worship God shows up – in His Word and Sacrament. He serves and feeds us.
What to expect:
We use the liturgical settings found in the new maroon Lutheran Service Book (LSB) hymnal. The liturgy brings with it a familiar order and rhythm to the service week after week. You can expect to sing Christian hymns accompanied by our beautiful Bedient pipe organ. You can expect to hear a sermon that preaches God’s Word and applies to your life.
There is a Children’s Message every Sunday during worship specifically geared toward the young. Following the Children’s Message, children (age 3-6) are excused from the service to take part in Children’s Church. A Nursery Room with PLENTY of toys is also available during the service for the parents (or grandparents) of young children. Kids are certainly welcome to stay in worship – to sing and learn to worship God; (also because some of our older members secretly love to hear the squirms and squeaks of God’s littlest loved ones).
Special Worship Services:
Throughout the year, our congregation gathers to worship God on several special occasions:
- Thanksgiving Eve at 7 pm – in this special service we not only take time to thank and praise our great God, we also take an offering of non-perishable items that are donated to the Oberlin Community Services Center
- Midweek Advent services are held during the Wednesdays of Advent – the season in the church year where we prepare for Christ’s coming on Christmas. The services are preceded by a free soup and sandwich supper in the church Fellowship Hall at 6 pm.
- Christmas Eve: We have a special, candle-light service filled with familiar hymns to direct our thoughts and hearts to the gift of baby Jesus in a manger.
- Ash Wednesday service marks the beginning of the season in the Church Year called Lent. Ashes can be placed upon our foreheads in the shape of a cross in a symbolic gesture of the sorrow over our sin. It’s a day of repentance.
- Lenten Midweek services beginning the week after Ash Wednesday and continue every Wednesday until the start of Holy Week. The services are preceded by a free soup and sandwich supper in the church Fellowship Hall at 6 pm. These Lenten services focus our hearts on the suffering and passion of our Lord.
- Maundy Thursday communion service marks Christ’s institution of the Lord’s Supper and His mandate that we love one another. The service concludes with the stripping of the altar.
- Good Friday Tenebrae service is a most sacred service of (progressive) darkness recounts the final suffering, death, and burial of our Lord.
- Easter Sunday worship service! At 10:30 am we rejoice in the resurrection victory of our Lord over sin, death, and the power of the devil.
